28 Things I Know About Myself

Presenting a List-y-Love Letter of what I gravitate to…

  • Nutella isn’t safe around me
  • I am not a morning person and never will be. I love naps and full nights of uninterrupted sleep.
  • Yes to money plants that swish down
  • I will get the dinner-scaries every night and dread thinking about What’s for dinner? I will also not meal plan or learn how to.
  • I can’t seem to finish reading craft books on writing.
  • Yes to the ocean. I adore Karachi Sands Pit Beach and surf foam camel rides.
  • No to the gym – I will not join.
  • Yes to dolls. As a little girl with 3 brothers, I didn’t play with dolls much and got tired of seeing headless barbies. Now as a mother of daughters, if my daughter asks for a doll I will typically say yes, and cradle her doll with respect. There’s only so much time left for them to love dolls.
  • I am also a maximalist for wall art and painted walls that drink in sunlight.
  • Abu Dhabi French Fries, nights where the cities come alive – I learned to ride a bicycle at night in the Abu Dhabi summers because it was too hot in the daytime.
  • Window Sills
  • Electronically, I will be organized, but in real life I struggle.
  • Crows
  • I have lofty library goals and will borrow piles of books from the library and return bunches of them unread
  • Pink-Blue-Skies
  • Yes to fishing in your car for a quarter for a gum ball even though the flavor fades in seconds
  • Blowing Dandelions
  • Too-neat-homes make me on edge.
  • Toddler Walks. Bonus points for pretty skies.
  • No to Banned Books! (my book Lailah’s Lunchbox is here!)
  • Yes to books by diverse KidLit authors!
  • Daughters and Shadows
  • Sunlight patterns
  • City > Suburbs
  • Yes to encouraging kids to paint the city
  • I will be able to write picture books, middle grade lyrical books, and essays but struggle with directions when I have to go somewhere
  • On that note, NO to Traffic and Rush Hour!
  • and YES to GOLDEN HOUR, the magical hour before sunset where everything turns to buttery gold.
